You must always log out of the database – including on your mobile device. You can only be logged in to the Database on one device at a time. The DATABASE LOGOUT is conveniently located on the top of every page. When you log out successfully you will see the image at right on your screen.
This was set up to prevent sharing of a single account. Our automated system detects sharing and interrupts access.
To go to a new website, but keep the Database open, be sure to open a new tab on your browser, or you will leave the Database without logging out. Do not enter a new web address in the browser window where you are currently viewing the Database. If you do this, you will automatically exit the Database without logging out.
If you leave the Database web page, or navigate to another website without opening a new browser tab, and/or without logging out, you’ll be automatically locked out for one hour. You will be able to log in after that hour is up. If someone has your login credentials and is logged in, you may remain locked out indefinitely. Burghound access is only for the subscriber and login credentials should not be shared.
So if you forget to log out at work, for example, once you get home and want to log back in, as long as one hour of inactivity has passed, you are good to go. You may access the Database on several devices, but only one at a time, and only if you are logged out of all your other devices.
See the image above.
- When you want to go to another web address while you have the database open, always click on the New Tab option and use the new tab to enter the new web address. That way you’ll keep the database open and accessible in the original tab.
- Never enter a new web address in the same browser tab where the database is open. If you do, you will leave the database without logging out.
Want to stay logged in?
There is no timeout. If your browser is set properly to work with cookies, and if you want to keep the Database open all day on your desktop so you can visit intermittently, you may do so, however, keep in mind security controls on each browser differ so it will not be an indefinite log-in. And you will not be able to log in from your mobile or other device as long as you are logged in, on another device, except after one hour of inactivity. Be sure to review our browser setting information: click here.
Dealing with the Database cookie settings
Occasionally you can log in to the Journals/Issues website and not the Database website – or vice versa (two separate websites accessed with the same login credentials). If you have verified your subscription has not expired ( Go to burghound.com > Member Info/Login > Edit My Profile ), you just have to clear cookies from your browser. For info on clearing cookies click here.
Why did I get a “login failed” message?
This means you are entering the wrong login credentials and should go to burghound.com > Member Info/Login > Forgot Password? in the navigation menu to retrieve your password. It may mean that your subscription has expired.
My search was interrupted. Why?
If you get kicked out of the Database while actively searching, you need to reset your browser to work with cookies which are necessary for the Database search features. Also, keep in mind, if you are traveling or have intermittent internet access – it doesn’t have to be obvious, but just enough, such as at some hotels or wireless networks – then you may be dropped from the Database without logging out and have to wait an hour of inactivity to re-log in.
